English+ are seeking to employ a Finance & Operations Manager to provide professional and comprehensive support to the work of the charity and its Charity Director and Trustees.
English+ is a local Christian charity based in Norwich, providing free weekly English classes, primarily in city churches, for people who are struggling to adjust to life here, due to their lack of English. The ‘+’ refers to everything else we offer to help people integrate into Norfolk, build community and form friendships. The charity provides services to those of all faiths and none ,without prejudice or discrimination. We currently run 5 weekly teaching sessions, with up to 100 students at the largest session.
However, teaching groups are small, and lessons are bespoke, according to the needs of each group. With the help of over 50 volunteers, we can get to know our students individually and support and assist with any specific needs as they build a new life here in Norfolk.
Many clients are asylum seekers and refugees who have additional concerns such as around health, housing, employment and finances. The ‘+’ comes from the work to help this same group of individuals with these further support for the issues they are facing. We currently see over 200 students each week at activities, from over 40 nationalities. Together with support, signposting and other assistance, we run other activities across the year to help with integration, community, well-being and helping provide purpose.
Appointment will be subject to satisfactory Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check and to receiving suitable job references.
Applicants must be eligible to live and work in the UK.
Our website is currently under re-construction so for more information please refer to the Charity Commission website, using our charity number 1169790.
