At Norfolk and Waveney Mind, we work hard to help people recover from mental health problems and develop resilience for the future. We are a leading mental health charity in Norfolk and Waveney, providing services which make a real difference to people’s lives. We are a friendly, flexible and supportive employer.
The Wellbeing Service in Norfolk and Waveney is an Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) service and is delivered as part of a well-established partnership between Norfolk & Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust (NSFT), Mind and Relate. Our IAPT service provides community orientated, evidence-based psychological therapies for people in Norfolk & Waveney from the age of 16 with common mental health problems of anxiety and low mood with a range of presentations.
We offer a range of psychological, employment and social interventions across Norfolk & Waveney to approx. 18,000 people every year. At Step 2 this includes high volume evidence-based practice in the form of one-to-one guided self- help, predominantly delivered by telephone, psycho-educational groups and computerised CBT. At step 3 we offer individual and group CBT, Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy, Interpersonal Therapy, Couples Therapy for Depression, Counselling for Depression and EMDR.
Candidates must be qualified (minimum diploma level) and be accredited with the BACP or UKCP or willing to become accredited within 12 months of commencing the position.
An additional qualification in Counselling for Depression (CfD) or Inter-Personal Therapy (IPT) is desirable. Candidates that don’t have one of these qualifications must be willing to train in either (funding and supervision provided) and be willing to deliver these interventions.
We are looking for a qualified and experienced counsellor, passionate about offering evidence-based approaches, who can provide psychological counselling within an NHS setting, including person-centred counselling, Counselling for Depression (CfD) and Inter-Personal Therapy (IPT) as part of a stepped care approach.
Counsellors within Wellbeing provide brief time-limited therapy and are expected to spend 55% of their time providing treatment interventions to clients. The Wellbeing Service has a number of Key Performance Indicators (targets) and clinicians are supported to achieve these. Clinical and case management supervision is provided within the service.
In addition to counselling skills we are looking for someone who can work well on their own as well as within a multi-disciplinary team. The ability to build good working relationships with colleagues and other stakeholders such as GPs is important.
We use an electronic client database and therefore candidates need to be IT literate, however, IT system training will of course be given to the successful candidate.
The North area covers Drayton, Cromer, Coltishall, North Walsham and surrounding areas up to Wells-on-Sea; the East part of the role will be based in Great Yarmouth; therefore, being able to drive is essential. It may also be required for the counsellor to cover other areas of Norfolk within reasonable distance as service demands require.
